MARILYN KRIETE's New Release PARADISE ROAD

THE STUNNING AWARD-WINNING DEBUT MEMOIR BY CANADA’S OWN, MARILYN KRIETE

Released and published by Lucid House Publishing, this book is available worldwide in paperback and ebook!

A picture containing text, person Description automatically generated

A restless child of the 1960s, Marilyn yearns for love, hippiedom, and escape from her mother’s control. At 14, she runs nearly a thousand miles away to Vancouver, British Columbia, eventually landing herself in a Catholic home for troubled girls. At 16, she’s emancipated, navigating adulthood without a high school diploma, and craving a soulmate. When she falls in love with Jack, the grad student living next door, life finally seems perfect. The two embark on a cross-continental bicycle trip, headed for South America, but before they reach Mexico, Jack dies. Utterly shattered, Marilyn does the hardest thing she can imagine: a solo bicycle trip, part tribute, part life test. She conquers her fears but goes wildly off course, chasing her heart as she falls into a series of tragicomic rebounds. Two itinerant years later, a chain of events in Montana’s Bitterroot Mountains leads to a peace she never expected to find.

Reminiscent of Wild and Travelling with Ghosts, Marilyn’s journey portrays a life unmoored by grief, brought to shore again.

PARADISE ROAD was selected as the InternationalPulpwood Queens and Timber Guys Book Club’s International Book of the Month for March 2021.

PRAISE FOR PARADISE ROAD:

"Paradise Road is a fearless account of Marilyn Kriete's life of adventure. She unspools the tale of plunging into each chapter of her life with great candor and momentum. She has an uncanny knack for putting the reader by her side through each exhilaration, each heartbreak, each danger, each triumph."

“Watching Marilyn Kriete crack wide open and feel utterly wounded, only to watch her attempt to piece herself back together one mile at a time. From her happiness feeling truly ebullient to her crestfallen soul, we meet a woman furiously bicycling towards her future. Paradise Road is such a beautifully painted story, I felt as if I was with her and cheering her on the entire time.”
Annie McDonnell of The Write Review

Like Milton’s Paradise Lost and Kerouac’s On the Road, Marilyn Kriete’s Paradise Road is an epic poetic trip. I was bewitched by the language from start to finish and hoping for more.”
Judy Kirkwood, award-winning writer and author of Prelude to a Divorce

Every once in a while, a memoir comes along that is so inspiring you want to share it with the world. Paradise Road is the very brave story of a woman, who had the tenacity and spirit to rise above all of life's sorrows and challenges. Five Diamonds in the Pulpwood Queen Mandatory Tiara of great reads!”

FRACTALS: The Invisible World of Fractals Made Visible Through Theater and Dance

The Invisible World of Fractals Made Visible
Through Theater and Dance

by Performing Artist, Writer, and Educator Kimberley Cetron

Released and published by Lucid House Publishing, this book is available worldwide in paperback and ebook!

A picture containing text, person Description automatically generatedFractals are patterns, infinitely reiterating, self-similar in shape. Benoit Mandelbrot coined the term in the 1970s, but scientists and mathematicians had been exploring the concept for centuries. Mandelbrot developed a geometry to express things found in the natural rather than the man-made world - coastlines, galaxies, anatomy, clouds, trees, snowflakes, and the like. Fractals are intrinsic to Chaos Theory - the science of surprises, of the non-linear and unpredictable. They reveal the order governing the seemingly chaotic in our world. As we learn to recognize them, we gain insight into our world, ourselves, and one another.

Especially at this cultural moment, when the whole world has changed and we must re-imagine the ways in which we make art and the ways we educate, Fractals provides resources and approaches for collaborative art and for locating the intersection of arts and academics in ways that illuminate both.

PRAISE FOR FRACTALS: The Invisible World of Fractals Made Visible Through Theater and Dance

"Fractals is an eye-opening awakening to the patterns that surround us everywhere and a must read for artists and arts enthusiasts of any discipline seeking insight into the creative process."
Shu-Chen Cuff, Founder/Artistic Director, Gin Dance Company and Faculty Member at The Washington Ballet, Metropolitan School of the Arts, and BalletNova Center for Dance

"Kimberley Cetron’s deep dive into the connective relationships between dramatic impulsive movement text and choreography is a gold mine. It offers endless possibilities for artistic educational conversation."
Tomé Cousin, Dancer, Choreographer, Director, and Associate Professor of Dance, Carnegie Mellon University

"The ideas, concepts, and principles explored in Fractals deliver fresh insight for practitioners of diverse forms of art. It offers truth in the matter – that education truly involves collaboration. Our histories lead us to new pathways and new ways of thinking: and within that, it is our nature to share and build new knowledge together."
Autumn Eckman, Dancer, Choreographer, and Assistant Professor of Dance, University of Arizona

ABOUT KIMBERLEY:

conversation

Kimberley Cetron began her career in professional theater as an actor, singer, dancer, and pianist. From there she expanded into producing, directing, music directing, costume design, choreography, and dramaturgy. She began her teaching career through music education, completing a Master’s degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and teaching multiple academic subjects at every level from pre-kindergarten through graduate school. During her doctoral work in education, an advisor asked why she had separated her performance and education experiences and urged her to combine them. Her dissertation research was a qualitative, longitudinal study of fostering cross-cultural communication using theater techniques. Her previous writing has included poetry, educational journals, book reviews, and playwriting. She has done staff development and curriculum writing for the Fairfax County Public Schools and taught undergraduate theater and graduate education at George Mason University. She lives in Virginia with her husband, Adam, and her son, Gabriel.
