Okay, you cannot tell me that this is not a book lover's holiday.  After all, we wouldn't even have Frankenstein without the brilliant and talented Mary Shelley.
Goodness - could you imagine Halloween without the icon monster?
Up until 1818, you had just that!

Frankenstein Friday is celebrated on the last Friday in October.  Frankenstein Day is celebrated on August 30 - Mary Shelley's birthday.  Both were created by Ron MacClosky in 1997.

Frankenstein is a special book for me.  It was one of the novels I read in college, and I loved it.  It opened my mind to how dark fiction can touch the spirit and make a statement just as powerful as an inspiration tale with a happy ending.
Having been someone who shied away from all things horror, Mary Shelley opened the gates to the graveyard and allowed me to see under the sheets and behind the coffins.  I was able to see humanity in new ways and the world with new eyes.  She did what all great writers are suppose to do - she expanded my world by peeling away the blinders I wore and allowing me to experience life with a fresh perspective.  For that, I will always be grateful.
