COVER REVEAL for NITE FIRE: Chain Reaction

NITE FIRE: Chain Reaction(Book Two)

Cover Artist, Alan Dingman

If anyone can tell the difference between monsters and humans, it’s Dahlia Nite. For nearly a century, she’s hunted one to protect the other; safeguarding humanity from the creatures that slip through the torn veil between the worlds—creatures like her. But the lines are blurring. As people begin mutating and combusting on the streets, Dahlia realizes a strange affliction has descended upon Sentinel City. The mysterious ailment strikes all walks of life, from the posh, high-end nightclub district to the homeless community. Its victims, driven to random acts of savagery, are drawing attention too fast to cover up.
Assigned to the case, Dahlia and her human partner, Detective Alex Creed, investigate the deaths. But all they have is questions and bodies, and a public on the verge of panic. Working behind the scenes with her self-appointed sidekick, Casey Evans, Dahlia struggles to discover what, or who, is behind the alarming transformations. As the violence spreads and the mystery unfolds, she wonders: are the victims still human? Were they ever?
Chain Reaction is the second book in the Nite Fire Series.

THE GHOST by H. Berkeley Rourke

Book Spotlight

The Ghost by [Rourke, H. Berkeley]
1)      What is the title of your book?
THE GHOST
Ø  What is the story about?
·   A campus rapist who becomes a murderer inadvertently, but likes it so much he does in again, and again.
Ø  Who is the main character?
·   There are two:
·   Jefferson Wells II is a rapist/murderer.
·   Jeanne de Leon is a detective.
2)     What inspired this tale?
Ø  How did the story come to you?
·   I was listening to reports of the rape and degradation of a woman near Stanford University by an outstanding Stanford student, and I remembered the same thing happening at Duke, a Texas University, Florida State and a number of other places.
Ø  Did you have to research for this novel, and if so, why?
·   Yes. It took quite a bit of research to teach the main character, Jeanne de Leon, how to do profiling of the type offered by the BAU of the FBI.
Ø  If you did research, what do you think surprised you most to learn, and why?
·   The types and varieties of killers we have in our country, some working as I am typing this answer.
3)     Do you relate to your character?
Ø  Is your protagonist anything like you, personally?
·   The detective is, the rapist is not.
ü   If yes, then how?
o   The detective is dogged, determined, willing to spend whatever time and resources which are necessary to arrive at her goal. She is willing to learn, is a little sassy, a whole lot savvy, a little sexy and a great communicator.
ü   If no, how do you differ from one another?
o   From the rapist/murderer in every way you find him loathsome, I do, as well.
Ø  What made you write this character; were they based on a real person or something that inspired you?
·   Cover ups of rapes on college and high school campuses.
ü   What should readers know about this character?
o   He is one of the most hateful people ever living, on or off paper.
ü   Why is this character important to you?
o   He provides the opportunity to shine a light on the issue of cover ups of college and high school rapes.
Ø  Do you consider the main character of your story to be good or bad, and why?
·   Bad. Reading the book will make the answer self explanatory.
Ø  What’s the objective of your character?
·   a)- Wells, to rape and murder
·   b)- de Leon, to catch the rapist/murderer.
4)    Is there anything you specifically want readers to know about this piece of work?
It is fictional, but could be all too real.
Ø  Is there a particular idea or morale you are trying to convey?
·   Yes. The cover up of rapes on college and high school campuses must stop.
ü   If yes, then what, and why?
o   There are too many cover ups of rapes on schools.
5)     Is this novel a standalone?
Yes.
6)    Where can readers connect with you and purchase your book?
If they wish to purchase a paperback or hardcover with asignature, they can contact me, and we will make arrangements. Otherwise, the books are available on Amazon in kindle and paperback.

BOOK SPOTLIGHT: The Killing Collective

Book Spotlight

1)      What is the title of your book?
The Killing Collective
Ø  What is the story about?
·   Can a group sway a crowd through words alone? Can people who are normally moral and law abiding be convinced to break laws in a single moment of fury, swayed by words and a mob mentality? In the right – or possibly (very wrong) – situation could you be convinced to kill in the moment?
·   Det Carter and his forensic scientist wife, Jill Seacrest, face their toughest case when they become FBI agents and learn a series of what is originally thought to be thrill kills may have very disturbing connections.
Ø  Who is the main character?
2)     What inspired this tale?
How a drug, or even words, can make people into zombies, and ripe for the devious instigator preying upon them for his gain.
Ø  How did the story come to you?
·   Finding out that a natural drug can actually zombify people into doing things they would never normally do.
Ø  Did you have to research for this novel, and if so, why?
·   And, I also researched the mob mentality, learning that several philosophers believe that individuals, when put into crowds, behave abnormally.
Ø  If you did research, what do you think surprised you most to learn and why?
·   How anyone might do anything under certain circumstances. It’s like we are in a lab, waiting to be tested for an experiment.
3)     Do you relate to your character?
Ø  Is your protagonist anything like you, personally?
·   Not really. He is closed off sometimes, but he does it on purpose to shield himself from the horrors of his job.
ü   If yes, then how?
o   Maybe how he appears reserved in professional situations.
ü   If no, how do you differ from one another?
o  Carter differs from me because he can truly embrace a Zen lifestyle. However, he will find out as his investigation progresses, he may not know himself or life as well as he thought he did.
Ø  What made you write this character; were they based on a real person or something that inspired you?
·   I was originally inspired by the characters in CSI and by Kay Scarpetta, and even TemperanceBrennan. So, I think Carter and Seacrest embody those characters.
ü   What should readers know about this character?
o   Carter tries to make life better for everyone, one person at a time, no matter how dark and depressing his job may be.
ü   Why is this character important to you?
o   Carter is very hopeful for humanity, overall. He is a humanitarian.
Ø  Do you consider the main character of your story to be good or bad, and why?
·   Carter is good, but like us all, he’s flawed.
Ø  What’s the objective of your character?
·   Carter needs to get justice for victims.
4)    Is there anything you specific want readers to know about this piece of work?
It is based on real places in NYC, and readers may enjoy a tour guide at the back of the book, along with book club questions.
Ø  Is there a particular idea or morale you are trying to convey?
·   Sometimes, we need to put more emphasis on how we live, than why we live.
5)     Is this novel a standalone?
Yes, it is a standalone novel, but the third in the Stanford Carter series.
Ø  If it is a part of a series, what’s the series name?
Ø  If it is a part of a book series, can it be read as a standalone or do you need to read the entire series to experience the full realm of the tale?
·   Robin and I wrote this so readers can come in and read it as a standalone novel.
6)    Where can readers connect with you and purchase your book?

Book Review of MAKING MIKE

Theresa's Reviews > Making Mike

Making Mike by J.M. Northup

#5 top reviewers (USA) and #8 top reviewers (Globally)

it was amazing
Miking Mike is the last of the Wounded Warriors series, giving us a glimpse in the world of our returning soldiers. We have looked at how injury has affected soldiers in Justifying Jack. Looked at PTSD in Saving Sam. Now we look at the cost of war where there are no injuries of the body or mind.
Mike shows the nature of the military service to bring people from all areas of life and from all ideals. Sam is a prototypical American Texan, living on a ranch and coming form a world of service as a birthright. To Jack a strong African American soldier brought up in faith and love, and duty. Now we have Mike, the slight figure of a man who came from the rebellious sixties mentality. He was raised with ideas of acceptance, and rebellion from the “man” and and societal constructs that restrict thoughts and protencities. Mike does not embrace wholeheartedly his parents and grandparents ideas but find that military service is his own escape from their dictatorial upbringing. He has his own personal struggle, how does he fit back into society after service. Mike shows us how our boys and girls can better themselves with service, but that service can give them the tools to learn and adapt. There are many pathways to service to country and community, and Mike shows that they are not something to be limited but to be expanded. His acceptance of a position as a VA representative shows how the military attempts to help the men and women back into society.
The book also shows cultural ideologies at conflict. Camile is a strong woman who has to break with her own family traditions to establish her own future. She was not supported by her family in her drive or ambition, and the fact she has to make it on her own is not lost to the reader. Mike becomes a part of the puzzle that she is struggling to fit together. Her acceptance of him, and his acceptance of her shows that love can be supportive and nurturing without over burdening the individual.
A great finish to the series, and an eye opening aspect of what society needs to understand. Thank you Julie for allowing us to sojuren in this world that many are not part of.

WIPs and New Releases

Newton Ramsey: Shootist by [Rourke, H. Berkeley]
1)      Tell us about your work-in-progress, or WIP, as it’s known as in the industry or New Release…
Ø  What is the story about?
·        It is a continuation of the life of a character created in NEWTON RAMSEY, SHOOTIST.
Ø  Who is the main character?
·        Newt Ramsey.
2)     What inspired this tale?
Ø  How did the story come to you?
·        I had not planned a sequel to NEWTON RAMSEY, SHOOTIST, but, one day, I began to think about what I would do with the character if there was a sequel. Next thing you know, there was a sequel in the works.
Ø  Did you have to research for this novel and if so, why?
·        Yes.
Ø  If you did research, what do you think surprised you most to learn and why?
·        The relative modernity of the town of Tucson, Arizona Territory in the time framing of the late 1870's and early 1880's.
3)     Do you relate to your character?
Ø  Is your protagonist anything like you, personally?
·        Isn't every character created in every book? Yes, or at least I would like to be like him, or maybe have made him like me in some respects.
Ø  If yes, then how?
·        In his adaptability to life and what it brings to him. In his desire for a great love which would last the entire term of his life.
Ø  If no, how do you differ from one another?
·        He is brave, stalwart, proven. Those are things I would like to think are part of my make-up, but cannot really evaluate.
Ø  What made you write this character; what made them important to you, or made you want to tell their story?
·        I decided to write a coming of age story, and set it in the 1860-1880 time frame, originally. I thought after the first book, the character would have grown, would have the desire to take chances with romance, with life again. He did in the sequel.
4)    Is there anything you specific want readers to know about this piece of work?
It is a sequel. They should read NEWTON RAMSEY, SHOOTIST before this one.
5)     When will the novel be available for purchase?
My guess is sometime in the mid to late summer of this year.
Ø  Has the book already been published?
·        No.
Ø  If not, when is the approximate release date?
·        Sometime in the mid to late summer of this year.
Ø  If yes, do you have a link available for buying it?
No, but, in time, the link will be http://mybook.to/theshootist2
