Mari Collier's THE SILVER AND THE GREEN

WIPs and New Releases

1.     Tell us about your work-in-progress, or WIP, as it’s known as in the industry or New Release…
Ø  What is the story about?
It is two thousand years after the Burning that destroyed the once thriving civilizations.  Three people struggle to find their way in a new portion of their world.  One will become the new Teacher for all of Tonath, one will start to rescue the older, destitute women on the planet, and one will give his life to save the others.
Grant Vidal leads the Green Marauders and is accustomed to taking what he wants. The leaders of the Mechams use the Silver Institute to spread their version of the Star Paths, and the Greenlanders use the Green Institute to spread their version.  The BRs just want to make a profit.
There are fights, wars, raids, love triangles, and people fighting to survive.
Ø  Who is the main character?
You might say there are three main characters:
1.      Brother Amos, a Seeker after truth
2.      Venta Strauss who wants to rescue the destitute older women
3.      Jack Donald an adventurer trying to find proof of family holdings.
2.    What inspired this tale?
Ø  How did the story come to you?
The story came to me when nine-year-old Jack was rescued from the Burning in the epilogue of Man, True Man - Chronicles of Tonath Book 1. He had to return to the planet of his birth.
Ø  Did you have to research for this novel, and if so, why?
Yes, I had to research the correct spelling of certain plants in the wild that can promote healing and are edible when food supplies are low.  I didn't need futuristic science in this story as they have not reached that level of development.
Ø  If you did research, what do you think surprised you most to learn, and why?
I pretty well knew what I would find out about the plants.  One thing surprised me about equipment though. I thought panniers were different from saddlebags.  It turns out they are the same thing.
3.    Do you relate to your character?
Ø  Is your protagonist anything like you, personally?
Not really.  I am not a Seeker like Brother Amos, unlike Venta, I wanted to marry the man I loved, and unlike Jack, my family did not have vast holdings of wealth.
ü  If yes, then how?
Perhaps the closest is Brother Amos, for I have read many books (tomes, some of them) about different cultures and religions.
ü  If no, how do you differ from one another?
The question is pretty well answered in the last two responses, plus I have no desire to rescue the world.
Ø  What made you write this character; what made them important to you or made you want to tell their story?
Tonath needs a new Teacher or the Burnings will continue until the entire planet is destroyed. Only the Teacher is able to guide them to the Stars in the far, far future.
4.   Is there anything you specific want readers to know about this piece of work?
It is an adventure, love tale, and an old fashioned story of people surviving in a raw frontier while fighting to establish a civilization. Like too many others, they are caught between the power grabs of well-armed nations.
5.   When will the novel be available for purchase?
It is available now!
Ø  Has the book already been published, or is it available for pre-order?
The electronic version is available on Amazon now!
The paperback version is available on both Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
You can also “special order” a paperback version from your local bookstore, using the ISBN.
ISBN-10: 1974414957
ISBN-13: 978-1974414956
