MEET MY CHARACTER BLOG TOUR
This tour, organised by author Mary Bernsen, highlights the main character from one of my soon to be published work. Here are the Q & A about my main character Josie Wright from my work in progress ‘’Mary Kelly’s Diary’’ which will be a bonus story in the special edition of my horror ‘’Just.Another.Common.killer.’’
1) What is
the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or a historic person?
Josie Write is the
main character of my short story ‘’Mary Kelly’s Diary’’ and she is fictional.
The diary she reads belongs to a woman named Mary Kelly, who was a real
person. Although the content of the diary is based on historical facts that
mainly revolve around the Jack the Ripper murders, it is a work of fiction.
2) When and
where is the story set?
The short story starts
in 2010 with Josie Write, but the old diary she reads takes her back to the
years 1884 until 1888. The owner of the diary, Mary Kelly, writes about
her days in London (Whitechapel to be exact) working as a prostitute and how
she and her friends ended up being hunted down by Jack the Ripper.
3) What
should we know about him/her?
Josie Write is
supposedly the great-great-granddaughter of Mary Kelly, presumed to have been
murdered by Jack the Ripper back in 1888. (For the purpose of my short
story, not in real life.) She discovers this after her grandmother passes
away and leaves her with an old diary, as per her last will and testament.
4) What is
the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?
Josie finds herself
deeply troubled by the content of the diary because although she had always
known that Jack the Ripper was real she had always treated the mysterious murders
like it was a form of entertainment and was now realising for the first time
how horrible the whole thing was. She discovers the identity of Jack the
Ripper within the pages of the diary and wants to share the information with
the world, yet something enables her to do so. On top of that, she
discovers something about her adopted mom’s real family that leads her to go to
therapy.
5) What is
the personal goal of the character?
At first, Josie’s goal
was to reveal the identity of Jack the Ripper to the world but the proof of who
the infamous killer was got destroyed (I don’t want to spoil anything so won’t
elaborate). She later tries to verify the authenticity of the diary she
was given, and also tries to find other proof of who Jack the Ripper was
despite the fact that somebody close to her is strongly against it.
6) Is there a working title for this novel,
and can we read more about it?
‘’Just.Another.Common.Killer’’
was originally published in 2010 by Rosedog Books. I found that they overprised
the book, so I have decided to release it independently as a special edition at
a lower rate and include bonus material. Is that a good deal or what?
Here is the book summary:
Under hypnosis, six year old Jack Huntington tells his
psychiatrist the dark unsolved tale of Jack the Ripper's 19th century
murders. Such details are given, that Dr. Philips begins to believe that
his patient might be the Ripper himself in another life. When the boy
fails to give him any information that would reveal the identity of the
Whitechapel killer, Dr.Philips ridicules himself for having thought the
impossible.
Years after killing his sisters in a
sleepwalking state, Jack is claimed normal and able to re-enter the real
world. He is released from the mental institution to start a new life,
but slowly starts to act upon his killer instincts and begins to remember
events that happened over one hundred years ago.
Jack is ready for new games!
(This special edition contains bonus material, which
includes the short story ''Mary Kelly's Diary'')

7) When can we expect the book to be
published?

Just.Another.Common.Killer will be released in the fall; sometime in September.

Here is a little shout out to Mary Bernsen for organising this fun tour:Mary Bernsen is a southwest Florida native currently living in Punta Gorda with her two beautifulchildren and a third, much larger child that she affectionately calls husband. She is a stayathomemother and spends her days creating characters on the good side of twentyfive because she is inserious denial about the fact that she is now on the bad side of it. She has a passion for fantasy ofany kind along with historical fiction. If she isn't having conversations with her madeup friends, you can usually find her clipping coupons or out on the boat enjoying the muddy waters of PeaceRiver (as long as it isn't below 80 degrees).Website: www.mbernsen.blogspot.comFacebook: www.facebook.com/marybernsen1Twitter: @marybernsen
